Hermes, Harksen, Coca-cola Popstars and B. Com Samoosas - Symmetries/Asymmetries in Formal and Informal Forms of Education
Enter plain text and/or HTML tags.
The purpose of this paper is to show the changes that have taken place in formal education in South Africa and elsewhere to make it more like highly influential everyday business and media contexts of real life. To that end I shall focus broadly on the symmetries and asymmetries I perceive in formal education and informal contexts of contemporary influence. Characterised as Hermes-inflated and predominantly visual the economic, social and changing educational climate will then be shown to be far more conducive to the flourishing of dyslexic Jurgen Harksen, charming con-man supreme and Coca-cola Popstars than the general populace, including the conventionally educated and occupationally aspirant epitomised by the samoosa made and sold by a B. Com graduate who cannot find a job.
