This paper provides a sharp and up-to-date analysis of how psychiatry found allies in disorder-specific mental health organisations. The analysis points to one of the possible causes of the inability to challenge psychiatry that continues to fight for its traditional hegemony in recruiting patients and in defining what constitutes as mental illness, thus keeping its fiercely guarded role as gatekeeper of traditional capitalist ideologies at all costs. By analysing the shifting discourses of these organisations Paul Serebro has found some important links between disorder specific mental health organisations and psychiatry as they discursively and mutually support each other, thus the former provides an important link between ideologies and individual patients and in doing so facilitates the process of selling ideologies as well as drugs to the "public" that otherwise might be suspicious of psychiatric interventions.
