Learning processes

George Siemens (2003) suggests the following stages in the learning process: Preparatory learning which relies more on informal tools; the learning experience itself which uses structured content and dialogue with gurus; and evaluation which requires informal discussion, reflection and self-expression. He argues that learning institutions should "move past the concept of start/stop learning" based on 12-week courses and towards the idea of learning communities.
