Much thinking around the value of collaborative learning is premised on the assumption that learning and working are becoming indistinguishable activities. Rather than moving out of work situations and into places like schools and universities for long periods to build up a stock of "just in case" learning, people increasingly rely on quick "just in time" learnings to get their work done. By the same token work is no longer only about production, but about individuals, groups and institutions' on-going learning and transformation.
One of the issues in such a scenario is how to accord recognition to learning that occurred in "informal" work situations rather than formal learning situations.
The Elearnspace blog has a short introduction and list of resources on recognizing prior learning.
